I use High speed phography techniques to captures this type of photos. the room should be dark and the shutter is opened for one second. During this second, my flash is triggered to freeze the action. The flash is usually set to the minimum power to reduce the duration of the flash which means better action freezing.

To trigger the flash at the right moment, I usually use sensors but this shot can be also timed manually. I used sensors but it is not a must.

for more details on High speed photography you can go to hiviz.com/

In this shot, I swinged the glass around its base and it was like a cup centrifuge and this caused the water inside to form this arch.

Exposure of 1/25000 sec (the duration of the flash at 1/64)

I had to break 20 glasses to get the right arc

PS: it is not wine, it is just colored water

"...but enough talk have at you!" Sorry.

That's an amazing shot by the way. I thought it was 3d at first, just because it seemed to impossible to catch with a camera. Shows us was persistence an expensive equipment can do, yea. Gorgeous.

..i keep thinking the physics of energy (tangible energy, seen in fiction everywhere) is best understood when you liken it to that of water/fluids, and this is a perfect example. red wine shockwave, comin' at ya.
amazing calculation and skill you must have to capture this, btw.
